Tony Holly, Club Director
High School volleyball in Illinois is underway and it is awesome hearing how Apex players are doing. Last month I was fortunate to get to attend a coaching clinic held by The Illinois Volleyball Coaches Association in Bolingbrook, IL and learn from some of the top college level coaches in the state.
As a coach, there is ALWAYS an opportunity to learn something that helps you improve and the same is true for players. School and club are very similar but also very different. An athlete who was a Hitter for their club season, might find themselves in the Libero role for their school team. An Outside might be thrust in a Middle Blocker role. Some players might chafe at this change, but it's important to remember just like learning new drills and methods at a coaching clinic you can also become a better and more well-rounded player by playing a new position. Try to embrace the chance to become a more valuable asset to your team and you might even find that you like your new position better than your old one!
